Figuring out the characters - Midsummer posting #2

This is the second Midsummer blog response and is due before class starts on April 1.

There are many memorable and interesting characters in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. From the love-crazed antics of the young Athenians to the meddling of the magical fairies, Shakespeare has created a fascinating cast of characters.

Who is the one character that interests you the most? What makes him or her interesting? If you had the opportunity to talk to the character, what would you talk about and why? Your blog response should answer these questions in a well-crafted paragraph that makes direct references to events and quotes from the play.

Like with all our blog responses, your response should be of published quality work with minimal errors and all the conventions of formal English. Use full sentences. Capitalize the beginnings of sentences. Avoid the informal language you might use in e-mail, on IM or Facebook.

Oberon is the one character that interests me the most. The thing that makes him interesting is that he is the king of the fairies. If I had the opportunity to talk to him I would talk about the powers he has as king of the fairies because I would want to mess with a few people.

Bottom is the one character that interests me the most. He's very energetic because in the play he wants to be the lion and lots of other parts. He's got a lot of personality. He's also arrogant. I would ask him why he thinks he's the best actor because I'm curious. He says "Let me play the lion too. I will roar, that I will do any man's heart good to hear me."

I think is most interesting is Oberon. I think that because I think that it would be interesting to rule the fairies. I would talk about what it is like to rule over all the fairies because I think that it would be intresting to know. I also would like to ask what it is to be able to control the seasons because it is a huge power and it would be intresting to know.

I think that Hermia is the most intersting character in this novel because she reminds me alot of myself. She likes the fact of being independent and not having to be told what to do. She demonstrates this when she doesnt want to listen to her dad and she wants to marry the guy she is in love with. She wants to marry Lysander and her father wants her to marry Demetrious. This is a huge conflict between the two. If I were able to talk to Hermia I would tell her how much she reminds me of myself and I would tell her that she isnt the only one that doesnt like being told what to do and how I would act the same way towards the situation that she is in. I find it very intersting that a character from a story that took place a long time ago, can relate with a part of my own life today.

I thik that Demetrius is the most interesting character.i feel this way he is in love with a girl who doesnt love him, yet he still goes after her and won't stop. Also he won't even look at Helena and smiles when she is upset and gets mad when she is happy. If i could ask him a question i would asked him, why would want to marry a woman that is being forced to marry him , wouldn't he want his wife to love him back ? And if he asked Theseus to force her to marry him, Also i would as him why does he hate Helena so much and won't look at her.

In my opinion Helena is the most interesting character. I feel this way for many reasons. One is the fact that she is letting jealousy lead her into making bad decisions like telling Demetrius of Hermia and Lysanders secret plans to wed. Another reason i feel she is so interesting is because of the way they describe her and her feelings towards demetrius. She is of equal beauty to Hermia yet she cannot sway the man of her dreams to love her. No matter how kind and caring Helena is to Demetrius he doesn't love her back. Lastly i find her interesting because of her envy towards Hermia, "O that your frowns would teach my smiles such skill".(Act1,scene.i,195). I would ask Helena if she had thought it over more before telling Demetrius would her actions have changed. I would also have asked why she loved a man that despised her more and more the more she showed affection. I really think that if Helena had more time to think over her choices in this play that all of her decisions would be different.

I dont realy like any of the characters in this book. But the closest one i could find would have to be Oberon. Not for the reason that he is the king of basically everything because of his totally awsome powers. But for how he speaks. Almost every character talks weird in this book and most likely will continue to do so."I know a bank where the wild thyme blows where oxlips and the nodding violet grows, Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine; There sleeps Titania sometime of the night."(p25) This quote is full of confusing and hard to understand words and phrases. But its ment to because Oberon is a high class character in the book. Another reason why I like Oberon is because he is not holding anyone hostage to marry like the duke Theseus. And Oberon isnt in that big mess of i love that person i hate that peson. And thats why i like this character because his lines are kul and he is easy to understand so far.

In my opinion from what i have read so far in the play a midsummer nights dream i feel that the most interesting character by far would have to Titania. And this would be because so far she seems to have the most in depth character having a husband, an adopted child, and various "fiends" she has strong connections to. Also she seems to be one of the few characters who is looking out to do the right thing , or what she sees as the right things to do. and when she cant have her way she will fight for what she believes in and doesn't just surrender to the points of others when an obstacle arises. such as when Titania and Oberon engage in a fight over the proper course to raise the young Indian boy; where Oberon wishes for him to be the knight of his train whereas Titania would much rather him as her prized prince with a crown of flowers rather than a sword and shield. And she feels that even if she wished to it is her duty to watch over this young boy as had promised to her lost friend. "Set your heart at rest, the fairy land buys not the child of me, his mother was a yot'ress of my order, ... but she, being mortal, of that boy did die, and for her sake do i rear up her boy; and for her sake i will not part with him." (Pg. 21) She had made a promise to a friend that if something should happen to her then the boy would be taken care of and Titania honors the promise made even if it is not an easy promise to keep. and this is precisely why i feel that Titania is the most interesting character in the play of A Midsummer Nights Dream.

Bottom interest me the most. He sound very energenitic and he also sounds like he is out to have a good time. He seems he will be funny because he is also very self centered. An example of his self centeredness is when they were going over the parts for the play. He wanted to play every part. If i could talk to Bottom, i would talk about the scene in the play where he wants to play every part. I would ask him about how he think he is the best character, adn why? These are some of the reasons i find Nick Bottom the most interesting character.

I think that Helena is the most interesting character in the play. I think this because she still chases after Lysander even though its obvious that him and Hermia love eachother. A normal person would usually just back off and try to get over it. Also, while Hermia tries to be a good friend and let Helena down easy, Helena turns her back on Hermia and backstabs her. I think Helena is the sneaky character out of them all , and she will do whatever it takes to get what she wants. If I had the opportunity to talk to her, I would ask her why she turned on her friends and betrayed them like that, when she can just wait and find love with someone else.I think that as we keep reading, Helena will have more snealy actions and cause more conflicts between the characters.

I think that Hermia is the most interesting because she is a lot like me in a lot of ways. She doesn't want to listen to her father because he is telling her to marry Demitrius which she doesn't love, she loves Lysnader. Her father said she had to marry either Demitrius or she has to dieor become a nun. She thinks that is unfair and she wants to choose who she marries and thtats why her and Lysnader plan to run away and allop. She wants and tries to be independent but can't. She also has a free spirited mind because even though her father is telling her what to do she doen't care that she might get caught leaving with Lysander. She just wants to do what she wants not what anyone else wants.

I think that Puck is the most interesting because he is the fairy that wants to have fun and likes playing tricks on humans. Puck is also interesting because he is very loyal to the king Oberon, he also seems very quick and good spirited. thats why I think hes the most interesting.

puck is a very interesting character. I like how he pulls all the tricks and is very mischievous. If I could talk to him I would ask him how do you pull of all the pranks. also I would ask him how is it like being a fairy and if it is fun to mess with the Athenian people. i would ask him how he does spells and if it is easy to do. i would ask him how Oberon is and if he does every thing for him .

The character that interests me the most is Hermia. I like Hermia the most because she has two man falling in love with her at the same time which are Lysander and Demetrius. Knowing this it means that Hermia must be really beautiful. And that is really cute the only sad thing is that the one she really loves which is Lysander is the one she can't be with.
Because according to the book
Theseus who is the Duke of Athens and Hermia's own father don't agree with her marrying Lysander. That is why she must marry Demetrius because he is a good wealthy man, or else she must become a nun or die. That is why I also feel bad for Hermia because she can't be with the one she trully loves. If I had the oppurtunity to meet Hermia I would ask her how she feels about what is going on with her, Lysander, and Demetrius? What choice will she choose out of the three given to her? Also if she decides to marry Demetrius would she give it a shot in loving him and forgetting about Lysander forever? And lastly I would ask her how much of a good friend is Helena to her?

Lysander is my home-dog. I like how he's willing to run away from Athens to be with Hermia. To sacrifice all his friends, his job, family and life in Athens to make his true love happy. Profound expressions should be customary when you fall in love. I also think Lysander has some of the best lines. "The course of true love never did run smooth" very true words. Human beings are terrible messes but also glorious bastions of emotion and experiance. Lysander is the classic romantic. I love his defiant spirit. You can tell he truly loves Hermia; to stand in clear defiance of Athentian law; to stand up the power of Duke Thesus and flee far from his realm-leaving an entire life behind, is certainly proof enough that his heart swells for the affection of Hermia.

It's true that actions do indeed speak louder then words. Lysander's voice is as booming and powerful as a lions gallent roar, yet gentle as a lark's morning song.

Puck is the character that interests me the most. He is the trickster of the story, and after Titania and Oberon, he is the creator of the main plot. If he hadn't pulled the trick on Bottom, then things would've turned out different. He also seems very loyal to Oberon. Even though he can be a jokester, this shows that there is a serious side to him. If I were to meet him, I would ask him about all of the tricks he had played on people. It would be interesting to know what he had done and what he was planning on doing for the future. Also, when we aren't reading about the actors, it is good to have a funny character around to even out the serious side with the fairies and the lovers.

The character that catches my attention the most would be bottom. He gets me to notice him more than the other characters because he is very energetic and optimistic. Like that play, he wanted to play all of the parts so he was optimistic that he would be capable of playing all of those parts. It also seems like he always wants it to be all about him all the time and i wonder why he does that when he knows that he cant be the only shinning star in the world.

The character that I find the most interesting in this story would be Demetrius. His feelings about Hermia and Helena are so odd. I would ask him what the big deal about Hermia is because it does seem like she treats him very nicely. Helena is in love with him and she's so nice to him. I'd ask him why he isn't interested in Helena instead of Hermia. Also I would ask him why Hermia's father and Theseus want him to marry her so bad. What are they getting out of it? What would he get out of it?(being with someone who doesn't even love him back)In addition to these questions I would also ask him how he felt when Helena told him about Hermia and Lysander's plan to elope. Was he thankful to Helena or just angry at Hermia? I just thought his situation was difficult and interesting and that's why I chose him.

UHG Tory stole my character!
One of the characters that interests me the most is Puck. I find him interesting because he plays jokes on people. "Sometime for three-foot stool miskaeth me; Then slip I from her bum, down topples she" If I was able to talk to Puck I would ask him if i could pull some pranks with him.

I find Puck to be the most interesting character. His mischievousness captivates me. He has a sharp wit and loves a good laugh, hopefully at someone elses expense. I wouldn't want to talk to Puck. He is a little frightening and I would be scared of the pranks he would most likely pull on me without hesitation. If I were however to talk to him I would ask him about his pranks and what the other fairies thought about him and what he did. I want to accompany him on his mischief making. I would love to see him pull such a prank us pretending to be a stool and pulling himself out from under a woman, though I myself would be scared of the karma it would inevitably bring my way.

Demetrius would probably be the character that I would like to meet because I do find him most interesting. The reason I find him most interesting is because I want to know the reason that he would rather mary Hermia then Helena. I mean if he loves Hermia why would he want to ever see her upset and possibly dead? I probably would ask him if he honestly is basing his marrage apon looks and because Hermia is slightly, prettier then Helena.

Bottom is the most interesting to me. He is so interesting because you never know what next funny thing he is going to say. In the play he wamted to do all the parts in a play but he couldn't and he though he could. He wanted to show off and let people see he is very smart.I think the author put him in for comedy and he is very intersting. If I could talk to him. I would ask "why do you think you where put into this play". I would ask this because i'm sure he will comeback with something funny. He might think it is smart but really it would be funny.

The character that interests me the most would be puck. Puck's personality is fun. He has a free spirit about him, and i love that about him. His micheif is hysterical and i think my personality combined with his would be fantastic. If i had the opprutunity to talk to him we would probably end up just talking about jokes and end up playing pranks on people. Alothough he might get into trouble occasionaly with the amount of micheif he causes, his actions are done in a kind hearted way and in no means are meant to be cruel.

The character that I find most interesting is Puck. I think he is the most interesting character because he can be taken two different ways. One way to look at him is a very mischievous person who is always playing tricks and jokes on people. The other way people perceive him is as a over confident and conceded. One quote from Puck is when Oberon asks him to find the special flower Puck says "I'll put a girdle round about the earth in forty minutes". Why people think differently about his is because some people say that he said this bragging that he will sit around and get to the task within the next forty minutes. If I had a chance to meet Puck I would ask what side of him is true, is he conceded or mischievous?

Thus far in the play “A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream”, I think that Titania is the most interesting character. She interests me the most because she has a clear idea of what is wrong and right and her moral obligations. She doesn’t stray from her beliefs and isn’t afraid of a fight. However, she is aware of the affect that her feud with Oberon is having on the natural world. Her willingness to stop it shows how she is a kind and caring character that is looking out for the good of the majority and not only herself. She is unselfish, unlike her husband Oberon, thus far. Additionally, Titania speaks with eloquence and intelligence. She is an important person with presence and standing in the story. If I was given the opportunity to speak to Titania, I would ask her about her decision to keep the Indian boy even though it was causing so much trouble. I would like to understand how she held to her decision and moral obligation knowing the affect is was having on the world. I would like to know the reason behind the decision and why Oberon acting like such a child. I would chose to talk about this because not only is it a source of turmoil in the story but it would reveal a lot about Titania herself. It would solidify assumptions and show her true character. I would also like to know how she feels about the situation. Titania is the most interesting character by far because she plays a vital role in the story.

I like Oberon the best because he is the king of the fairies and has a lot of authority. Also he is seeking revenge on his wife and that seems it will be fun to see how it works out for him. If I had the chance to talk to him I would like to talk about how cool it is to have magic and if he thinks he is winning the fight with his wife. I would like to help him make up with his wife so they could stop destroying human lives.

The one character that interests me the most is Oberon. He is interesting because he is a fairy and he controls what the Athenians earth is like with Titania. I would talk about how I like him a lot but that he needs to stop fighting with Titania and make up. Oberon is an intriguing character and is important to the life of the Athenians. Without his happiness and content, the Athenians can't have a safe environment or a consistant one for that matter.

The character I find the most interesting would be Titania. She is very loyal and knows what she wants to do with herself. If she thinks something should be done and for a good cause she'll see to it that it will be done.Titania takes an indian boy and cares for him for a dead friend which leaads to one of the things i would ask her is how she met the indian boy's mother and why did she decide to show herself to her in the first place. Titania also stands up to the king which is very admirable because in most stories or fairy tales the queen does nothing and lets the king make all the desisions. Titania as I said before knows what she's doing and will carry out what she knows should be done especially when it's for the better good.

The character that intrests me the most is Theseus. Theseus is interesting because he is the king of Athens and is obeyed by all. He has the power over a whole city and gets whatever he wants. If I had the opportunity to talk to him I would ask him how it is like having all that power and is it hard to keep the city in control. I would also ask him why he is fighting with Titania because of all the harm he is causing to nature. Athenians are suffering because of him arguing. I would tell him to give the Indian boy to Titania because he can always find another knight.

There are many different characters in the play "A Midsummer’s Night's Dream" but the on that most stands out in my mind would have to be puck the fairy. We haven’t read much about him but from what we have read you already get the felling that his role in the play will be very important. If I ever had been able to meet and talk to Puck I would like to know what enjoyment he gets out of tormenting people by playing tricks on them scaring them and all the other things he loves to do to humans. I want to know this because it interests me in the reason that I don’t like to hurt or scare people and I wouldn’t get a sense of enjoyment out of doing so. That is the reason for me wanting to meet puck the fairy.

I think that Titania is the most interesting character in this book. She's the most interesting because she is the Queen of the fairies. And the way that she talks is most different than any of the other characters because of her status as a fairy. If I had the opportunity to talk to her, I would want to talk about the different things that she could do, and ask how it is to be a fairy. I would want to talk about this because I am very interested in that she can do. Being a fairy must be fun in many ways, and I would like to know.

Although, I think I would litterly be most like Peter Quince in the sense of his leadership of theatrical productions and organzation of such events- I would be most interested in speaking with Lysander. Lysander is at the brunt of the love polygon, if you will, spotlighted in A Midsummer Night's Dream. I would love to ask him what its like being so in love and so confused in his situation. It must be so difficult for such a young man to be thrown in the midsts of a love story of this caliber. Not to mention the divine intervention-esque role of the faires. He must be a very confused young man and I would like to hear how takes it all in stride and goes with it.

The character that interests me the most would have to be Demetrius. I would just want to know why he draws complications with him wherever he seems to go. First he loved Helena and then when he achieved her love, he moved on to Hermia who does not love him. I would probably ask him if getting these girls is all about the chase or not and get some insight into why he acts the way he does. There could be some deep problems to his thinking method after reading about the way he acts.

If i would have to choose one character that interested me the most in Midsummer Night's Dream it would most likely be puck. If you think about all of the events that occur between the lovers in the woods, you would find that it is all because of puck. As i thought about this, i realized that if puck was not in the story at all, there would be no story. But yet puck has one of the most famous lines in this play, "oh what fools these mortals be!" He is constantly finding enjoyment by all of the madness that is ensuing between the lovers, even though he made a big mistake in the beginning. Puck is just a fun character with incredible wit and i think most people who read Midsummer Night's Dream underestimate his importance to the story.
