Examining your classmates' short story wiki pages

This response is due before class starts Thursday, Oct. 2

We've all had a chance to work on our short story pages on the classroom wiki. If you haven't done so, you should have information about three short stories on your page.

For this assignment, you are required to look at several of the pages compiled by your classmates, either in your class or a different period. You can view them all by clicking this link. View several of them and then decide who has posted the best symbolic picture on their page. In the comment section on THIS page, answer the following:

Who posted the picture that provided the best symbolic image from a short story? What made the picture so interesting and appropriate for the story? How does it help us understand important ideas from the story? Paste the address of the student wiki page you examined.

After looking through some pages I think Rory Zampano had one of the better pictures on her page. It was about the short story, "Initiation". The picture was of a girl sitting alone on a set of stairs. At first I didnt understand it beause most people had a heather bird or a college or a something obvious, however Rorys picture represented Millicents feelings, I hadnt thouoght of it like that before and that is why I really appreciated Rorys explanation and picture.

Out of every page i looked at I thought the best symbolic and general picture was from Tom Q. The picture in my opinion was so interesting because it was a very good picture and I could tell it was the scene he had set up in his head from the story. It went well with the story "Through the Tunnel" because it was an ocean scene with rough waters and several large rocks and cliffs. The picture kind of gives a general idea that the story had to do with the ocean and had some rough waters.

After viewing some pages, I thought Dan L shared great detail and interesting thoughts on his page. The picture he used for Through The Tunnel resembled the story because it had a dark tunnel with a light at the end. that picture gives a specific and detailed idea of what the story was really about

I tought that josh had a good symbols for initiation which was the constitution. it went along with the idea off freedom and that the us didn't have to be with britian like millicent doesn't have to join the sarority.

I would have to say that out of the ones that i looked through i feel that tom quags picture for the short story Throught the Tunnel was one of the most fitting picture because even just looking at the picture you are completely taken by the brilliant sight, just as im sure Jerry was when he was looking out at a similar setting in the story.

After looking over a few some pg. i thought the best one was Ella Period 6 because i liked how she chose Jerrys journey as a mountain and a person on the bottom ready to take it on.

I think leanne petrillo's picture was a very symbolic image for the story "through the tunnel" I like the way he is walking alone and you and see the footprints he's leaving behind. The footprints symbolize the progress he took in making it through the tunnel.very gooddd leannee, very good.

KRISTY PERIOD 6 ^^

I think that Kristy Lesandrine's picture for "Through the Tunnel" was very symbolic and related to the story well. It shows how Jerry wasn't like the other boys that he was hanging out with becuase he is always usually with his mom. Sense he is just starting to be more independent, it shows how he is trying to figure out what the "cool" thing to do is. Great job Kristy, great job.

I thought that Carla M's page was quite well done.
Not only was she sincere and insightful in her writing, but her photos were spot on.

I particulary like the first one.
The somber image of a boys hand slowly slipping away from his mothers. symbolic of the pain and joy of growing up, a testament to the wild carousel of emotion that is being alive.
Well done carla, as we say on newgrounds, "Epic Win"

The page that i liked the most was Jessica B's( also known as bainer). I liked her qoute and picutre about "Through the Tunnel." They both related very well to eachother and i think she is very right about how the mother is attached to him . She put thought into the photo too because most peopel had a picture of a beach and what not but she dared to be different. Also, the point about the mother being very protective, makes you think that Jerry may have pushed himself to stay under the water to prove to him self that he doesnt have to be controlled by his mother and that he can do somehting crazy :) GOOD JOB!

I think that the best was Ella's because she described the metaphor towards Jerry going through the tunnel. It also makes sense to say this.

Out of the ones i looked at i think i find nando's the most interesting and creative and a symbolic picture as well. Instead of putting a pic of a heatherbird he put a picture of a piece of toast and this signfies how that from just asking people what they ate for breakfast it turned out to be a big change in her descisions in life

I thought that Ella's picture for through the tunnel was the best. The metaphor seemed very accurate in comparing the mountain climb with Jerry swimming through the tunnel. Both can be hard to accomplish and yet both are easily possible. Also, both might take awhile to complete, and some hard work, but once again each are equally possible.

I think that Jamie's picture on the short story,"Through The Tunnel" was a really good explanation of why she had choose the qoute that she did. It shows the boys jumping off the rocks just like the boys had done in the story and her qoute.
Also her other pictures were goood too but i jsut think the first one is the best. Initiation shows the girls getting all dressed up like the girls in the story would do also. She did a really good job explaning everything.

I thought that DanL's last picture was meaningful because I never looked at it that way. So it made you think a little more about the story and what the message was.

I think that Michelle posted the picture that provided the best symbolic image for "Initiation". I think this because her picture of the heather birds went beyond the literal. The picture focused on a factor that changed Millicent. When she heard about the birds she realized how the initiation opened her up to others and matured her. She realized that being part of the sorority was not vital to being accepted or even considered cool. The story of the heather birds initiated her maturity and her personal change. The heather birds were completely appropriate because they also kept coming up as a influence through out the text. It helps us to understand important ideas from the text because it focuses us all in on the factor that caused Millicent to change and mature. It shows us what allowed her to make all those important connections, ideas, and freedom by centering on it. Michelle did a good job with her picture.

I thought that Michelle Elizabeth had the best pictures. For Through The Tunnel, she has a boy walking through a tunnel. For Initiation she has a bird for the symbol and for the Moustache she has a boy hiding his face and every one is ponting at him. I think that those pictures shows that this is what really hapend in the story.

I think the person with the best picture on thier page whould have to be Jamie G. I think her picture fit all of the stories we have read. The picture about tthe boy and a friend going into the water off a rock is appropriate for that story. That picture made it seem like I has there. It made me understand the story better by this picture. It seeem like it was the real picture that was taken. This made me understand that he was scared to jump in the water and go though the tunnel. If you look at the boy in the back you will see he is scared.

I think that Joe-Period-2-Short-Story, has a very meaningful picture for through the tunnel. He has a picture of the ocean, and the whole story took place on the beach. Joe-Period-2-Short-Story, picture reminded me very much of the story Trough the Tunnel.

I've looked through some of the pictues i think that Ella's picture was the most meaningfull because it really depicts the symbol of the story very well, the fact that Jerry made this major journey of courage by "going through the tunnel" and the fact that this person in this pictue has a backpack on and is starting the begining of a little journey.

I think Jess from period 5 was good because it represented the relationship between mom and son. It also showed how there drifiting away and how they still want to be apart and together in a way.

I chose this picture of decisions for initiation because I think that the cartoon image of people trying to make decisions is good because it illustrates the story real well.

after looking caefully through almost every ones story pages, I think Jake Chamberlins was the most symbolic. His discriptions are deep and very well written and he seems to understand the basesis of all the storys. That is whos page i think is the most symbolic and why i think it is.

The picture that i thought was symbolic wasthe picture that Jake period 6 put for Milicent's story. I think that this is a good representative of Milicent sceens it seems that she has ground and now sees the worl in a hole different way. Just like a flower when it blooms. It has been in the dark for a longt ime and now has seen light for the first time. She has become in piece with herself and like that she has also become the center of attencion like a role model almost.

After looking through everyone's pages, I think that Tom Q's picture for the Through the Tunnel was the best picture. The reason why I think that his was the best picture is because I was amazed by the art work in the picture he chose. I'm also sure Jerry was amazed when he was looking out at a very similar vision in the short story.
