Gamma Rays Post #1 - Define good literature

One of the most difficult questions you are asked in an English class is "What makes this a good piece of literature?" As we read The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, you can expect that question to come up again. However, before you can come up with a good answer, you should have a clear ideas for a definition of good literature. Let's do that here. Define the characteristics of good literature. Remember to avoid meaningless reasons like "it keeps me interested" or the like. Good literature, by definition, should keep you interested - you have to point out just what the author does to make it interesting. Think about the literary terms we have studied in the short stories. If possible, use some of them to help you craft a concise, clear definition. Once you have your definition, tell us your favorite piece of literature that we've read in class this year. Evaluate your selection using your criteria.

good literature to me is the plot line and the theme. They have to be funny or very serious and sispenceful. the theme is the mesage that give information. the Name is the story i picked because it is sispenceful.

Good literature to me is a story with a plot that takes drastic twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the very end. It also has to have interesting characters that grow on you or you can relate to so the story isn't boring. When you find out a little bit at a time about the plot line and how it moves on, it keeps you more interested and you can keep reading about it to find out more. When a story has an interesting setting, you can actually picture it when you are reading. You have a place to put the characters when they are talking and interacting.

I think that good literature can be a lot of things. It has to have a good plot line (rising action, climax, falling action). It has to, at the end of every chapter be suspenseful, so that you go to the next chapter. It has to have metaphors and similes. A good piece of literature has to have a realistic setting that you can imagine what it is like. It has to have some irony in it. In order to make good literature the person that is reading it has to relate to it in some way. If the person that is reading the literature has gone through the same things in their life as in the book it keeps them interested. That is what has to be in it to make good literature.

Good literature is literature that has an interesting story line. The author adds mystery and suspence to the story. Also, literature is good if the characters are characters you can relate to. The characters are important in a good piece of literature. If the characters are boring then you won't want to read the story. Also, irony is important. The story has to make the reader want to keep reading. The story can not be predictable, it has to make the reader keep wanting more. The story also has to have a cliffhanger so the reader will have questions and will find out the answers as they keep reading. A theme is important to a good piece of literature. If there's no theme of the story, then the story will not be good. The story needs to show symbolism. It needs to have some sort of symbol throughout the story line. One last thing is that the setting needs to be realistic and it needs to connect to the theme.

There are many aspects that make up good literature. Good literature shouldn’t be a piece of work in which the reader can easily predict what’s going to happen next. It should keep the reader guessing and engaged in the text. Good literature should include suspense and cliffhangers, which would make the reader to want to keep reading. There should be a clever use of irony, or a twist that would surprise the reader. It would also make the piece of text more original. A fine use of figurative language would also help. It would make the text sound better, and it would allow the reader to picture and relate to the text better. Good literature should allow the reader to picture the scenery in their heads, and it should be realistic that the reader would be able to imagine and relate to. The plot line should also be revealed carefully. Good literature would also contain a smooth development of characters, plot, and conflicts. The theme of the story should also be something that the reader could learn from. Most importantly, good literature should be original, and unique. It should be something that the reader would remember and be able to label it as good literature.

The Definition of “good literature” can be interpreted in many different ways. Personally I feel a story that is “good” should have an intriguing opening. The opening should contain the theme of the story and possibly an introduction to the conflict. The theme itself is very important in writing a good piece of literature and should be formed in conjunction with an excellent setting and a conflict that is appealing. Throughout the piece of literature details should be well formed and if there are characters, they should be well formed also. The last necessitate of a fine piece of literature is a good conclusion that answers the conflict created in the story, and also a conclusion that is simple to understand.

Good literature to me is a story about something I can relate to. For instance, if it was a situation that I could relate to then I could see how anther person dealt with the conflict or problem and use it in my own life. The story also has to have a good introduction so that I know what the author is talking about Good literature should also show well written description of a character that will give a better understanding and image of what the character is like. Well written words, correct grammar, and suspense in the story should be included. To top it off, a well written conclusion that sums up the rest of the story.

There are many characteristics of a good piece of literature. One characteristic is that a good piece of literature should have irony that can be dramatic or situational. This shows a difference between the appearance and reality of the literature. There should also be a theme that the reader can actually understand as well as relate to something or someone in the story. Symbolism also make a good piece of literature that has a person, place or activity that represents something with a very deep meaning, deeper than the actual meaning. Figurative language like similes and metaphors makes the literature sound better and can make a connection between two things is a deeper understanding. There should be a setting that is realistic, imaginative, and connects to the theme. It also should have well-developed characters using characterization from a character’s physical description, speech thoughts, feelings, or from the narrator’s comments. There should also be a conflict that is major part of literature has a struggle between two forces like a person (self), society, nature. My favorite piece of literature is “Teenage Wasteland” because it has well-developed characters is a setting, and then there is a conflict that a theme after the conflict is resolved. There is also a little bit of figurative language at time in the story.

I am glad to see that in Ted's post he not only defined good literature, but chose his favorite piece of literature to date from this year. Additionally, the post has the required number of words to earn full credit. When you're posting a response to a question such as the one Mr. Miller has posed here, remember that the best way for you to provide evidence for your point of view is to provide textual evidence from the literature, i.e. quotes or specific references. Don't forget to complete the word verification at the bottom, or your post won't go through. It is interesting to read your thoughts; keep up the good work!

Irony makes good lit, but believable characters are also a staple of good reading materials. Characters that are especially dynamic, and not bland or monotonous, also help enhance the reader's love of the story and interest level. When characters are flawed, the reader can relate to them on a more personal, unsuperficial level. When literature has a climax, it also makes the excperience of a book much more enjoyable.

I think good literature should catch your attention in the beginning by starting with a small detials whats going to happen. Confilct of the story snould have alot of action. In a story it shouldn't drag on, but it should get to the ponit of the story. One more reason that makes literature good is when i can relate to it. For example in The Name i can relate to gandfather zisskind because my dad wanted to do the same thing with my brother. The author of the story caught my attention because he went right to the point in the story thats why i like it.

Good literature to me means having a good conflict in the story and a very well written understanding theme. The point a good story is to make the reader want to keep on reading and not book the book down. IN my opinion having problems in the story that are interesting make the reader think and have to figure things out. Another very good thing that should be included in good literature is a very clear introduction. If the introduction makes no sense or is very boring the reader may not want to read the rest of the book and decide to stop reading. It wont make a difference if the rest of the book is well written the introduction is what introduces your story. Having characters in the story should have some relative problems that the reader can relate to, that makes the story more interesting for that reader to read. One other thing in good literature is it should have a good ending, not having something that leaves the reader thinking in to what happens next. In my opinion this is what good literature should include.

Good literature needs to have many qualities, and still flow well. there should be many twists, to keep the reader on their feet, but an easy to follow story, so that they do not get discouraged and stop the book. While haveing an easy to follow story line, the literature at hand should still have to think outside the box, with symbolism, metaphors, and emotional themes.

There are many assets to having a good piece of literature. Two main assets include having a well developed theme and setting. Without having those two parts the story would be hard to follow. It wouldn’t keep the reader interested for a long period of time as well. Figurative language is another good thing to have. These similes/ metaphors/ etc. are what allow you to visualize the story better. They also give a lot better descriptions of things. My favorite piece of literature must have been “A Visit To Grandma”. I believe this story was very well written. At some times it had suspense to what they were going to do next, and that kept me reading. This story also had really well developed characters. Each person seems to have their own separate personality. It also included a great dialogue about the story’s problem. That is why I enjoyed reading that particular short story.

There are many characteristics that should be included in "good" literature. First, irony, such as situational and dramatic irony, should be included in the piece. Second, the piece should bring out a clear theme that can be interpreted by the reader, author, and the narrator. The piece should give understandable explanations and details, to back up the theme. Characterization is also very important, which is how the author defines each character in the story. Other things that are important for a good piece of literature are having realistic events, conflicts, suspense, symbolization, an interesting setting, and a thorough climax. The story should also have a “deeper” meaning, as Kelsey H said. For my definition, I feel that “good” literature is something that can be easily interpreted by others, and something that others can relate to in their own way. All of these characteristics are most usually found in a good piece of literature. So, in conclusion, I would have to say that my favorite short story that we have read is “The Lie” or “A Visit to Grandmother”, because I think many people today can relate the most to what some of the characters experienced in these two stories. Also, both of these stories showed a clear theme.

There are many different things that make literature good. Good literature should have a clear theme. It should also include realistic character which the reader can relate to. Suspense and detail are also important in good literature. The suspense should make the reader wonder what will happen in the story. The detail helps the reader picture what is occurring in the piece of literature. A good piece of literature should have a conflict. These things should make the reader want to keep reading. My favorite story that we read this year was “The Lie.” This story is a good example of relatable character. Many people can relate to lying about something. For example, Eli lied to his parents about getting into the school. “The Lie” was also good because it had a relatable conflict that made the story interesting. Therefore, this is what I think a good piece of literature should have.

I think that "good literature", is when you have a goot plot in a story and use suspense to make it better. You also need a catchy introduction and not confusing. So the story's concultion is satisfying.

Only the reader can say that an article, story, book or play is 'good literature.' It's basically an opinion put on the reading material. But for me, 'good literature' is when there is suspence and cliff hangers. Good literature is when there may be romance and/or a tragedy. It should also have good vocabulary.

"The Mustache" might have been my favorite story that the class read so far. This is because it had a depressing tint to it (not that depressing is a good thing), and it was interesting. It was interesting because the grandmother thought that he grandson, Mike, was her dead husband; she was trying to apologize for a mistake she made years ago, before her husband died.

There are many characteristics needed in a good piece of literature. One is great detail. If a piece of literature doesn't have detail, it makes it difficult for the reader to visualize what they are reading and details help for better understanding of the stories. A setting is also a very important part of having a good piece of literature for the simple reason that it gives the reader a mental picture of what the places and people look like in the story. Another characteristic that is needed for a good piece of literature is that it has to be engaging to the reader and catch their attention while keeping the story suspenseful. If not, the reader may get bored with the story and put the book down.

My favorite piece of literature that we've read thus far is "The Lie". This is my favorite piece of literature that we have read because it kept my attention throughout the story. Knowing that Eli lied to his parents was great, but i kept wondering if he would tell his parents and how far he would take it until he decided to tell them. There were also great details in the story. I had a picture of what the characters looked like, and the car that they were always talking about looked like. I enjoyed this story a lot, and I think that it was a great piece of literature.

A piece of literature has to have many necessary parts in order to consider it "good literature". For example, there needs to be one or more main characters that the reader knows about and and can relate to. There also has to be a set plot so the story doesn't just jump from theme to theme. Another necessary piece in good literature is that the author has to be able to keep the reader reading the story. If it isn't interesting then I don't think it is a good piece of literature.
Based on my criteria, I don't really think that any of the stories we read this year were good literature. None of them kept me interested at all and it felt like a chore reading them. And I think that reading should be something that is enjoyed. But that is just my opinion of the story based on my criteria.

I think that good literature is that which makes reader feel excited and enjoy. Author should use the suspense and cliff hangers so as to keep reader asking questions. Suspense and cliff hangers also make reader more curious and tries to know what’s going on. There should be meaningful theme that reader can connect it. Beside these, I think there should be the literary terms like simile, metaphors and figurative language that help in deep understanding, well developed characters, symbolism. Setting should be realistic and imaginative which connects to the theme.

I think that a good piece of literature should include a few things. First of all, it should have a clear plot or be written in a clear way and be easy for the reader to understand. At the same time, it should keep the reader guessing about what will happen next or how the conflict will be resolved. The characters should be well developed, and the character or plot should be something the reader can relate to. There should be a good use of imagery and figurative language. I also think that a good piece of lit. should contain a bit of irony and have a meaningful theme.

My favorite thing we've read this year is House on Mango Street. It was interesting even though it did not have a clear plot. The main character was very developed, and she was a realistic character that most readers can probably relate to in one way or another. A lot of imagery was used in Mango Street, which also keeps the reader interested, and the book was written well.

A good piece of literature should include many characteristics that should catch the eye of the reader. First off, every piece of literature should include a catchy theme which is interesting. It should make the reader ask questions and make them continue reading on to find those answers. I also believe a good literature should consist of descriptive adjectives so you can picture the setting in which the story took place. Along with that, a good piece of literature should include some irony, dramatic and situational. Characterization also places a good part in literature, because every reader has a different opinion upon a character.

To me a good piece of literature has to contain a few essential things. It has to have a decent plot that contains things like plot twists and irony. If a story doesn’t have things to catch and keep your interest then it isn’t worth reading. Also I think that it should have good characters who you can relate to. If the characters aren’t that easy to relate to then people wont enjoy the story as much. Something that’s very necessary in a good piece of literature is the setting. The setting can either remind of somewhere or make you think of somewhere as if you were in the story.
The best story that we’ve read this year, in my opinion, was Teenage Wasteland. I liked this story because the setting was in there and it just seemed like your average town or city. Also the author made a great character. He was very easy to relate to and I felt like I knew him. Also the plot for the story kept me interested and made me want to keep reading. This is why I enjoyed that story so much.

To me a good peice of literature must have many qualities. Most importantly the author must be writing about something I can relate too. If I can't relate to it then it will be very hard for me to really get into the book. Another thing that a good peice of literature must have is conflict. If there is no conflict then the story is pointless. Some other things that a good peice of literature should have are a good plot, an interesting theme, suspense, humor, and interesting charicters.

To me, a good peice of literature is one that reaches out to it's audience. It uses techniques, such as comparisons, irony, and simbolism to do so. The conflict of the literature is realistic and contains situations that will relate to the audience in one way or another. It will also contain suspense and maybe leave some cliffhangers. The most important thing to good literature, I believe, is that it will contain a deeper meaning. There is a theme throughout the text covered up by a story. If you can uncover that deep meaning, then you have read a good peice of literature.

When I can relate a piece of writing to realistic situations and/or problems, I think of it as good literature. A good piece of literature should include many things, such as: a conflict, it should reach a climax, be very descriptive, and include irony. Setting is very important too, if it happens to have a boring setting, then that ends up making the story boring and dull. The characters also have a huge affect on whether or not it’s a good piece of literature. When I read I like to be able to relate and connect the real world with the characters and the situations they are in. Good literature should contain a good theme that is referred to throughout the story and give details on how the story connects to the theme. “Teenage Wasteland” was my favorite story we‘ve read all year. I felt like I was there and I could really relate to some of the characters. There was never a dull moment during the story and in my opinion, it was a great piece of literature.

In my oppinion a good piece of literature must include a couple of important qualities. Most importantly, a piece must keep my attention by giving excellent details about the characters, the plot,etc.. Antother characteristic that a piece of writing must have is suspense. I think that good suspense or "cliffhangers" are a necesity to a excellent work of literature. A last important thing that needs to be in a piece of lietature is an mind and eye opening opening and ending of a story. If the work has a catchy opening people will want to read more of it and will thik of the next situation that might happen or will try to come up with the ending to the story even before they get to it. A good ending is also important because it sums up the piece of work and may make the reader want to get another piece of that authors work. In conclusion, my definition of a good piece of literature would be a piece of work which has a mind opening opening and closing with a good scense of detail, suspense, and a relatable topic to the reader.

My favorite piece of literature that we have read so far this year would have to be teenage wasteland. This was my favorite piece of literature because i could relate to the problem that donny was going through. It also had a mind opening begging tothe story because it got me thinking "who is this kid?" "why is this story about him?" etc.. Also because it wasn;t as boring and hard to understand as the other stories were.

A good piece of literature should have many elements. The intro should be catchy and spark the curiosity of the reader; it should make the reader want to find out what happens next. Another thing a good piece of literature should have is a good description of the setting and the characters. If the author describes the character well then the reader should have a very clear picture of them in their mind and the reader should know their personalities. The setting needs to be portrayed well so that the reader can understand the store easier. The plot of the story should appeal to the reader. If the reader had a personal connection with the plots then most likely they are going to want to read it. The plot should be worthwhile and not just a little thing that no one cares about. It should be worth finding out about. The conclusion needs to rap up the story and answer any questions the reader has. It should leave the reader satisfied and ought not to leave the reader hanging. My favorite piece of literature that we have read in this class so far would have to be the lie. It is my favorite because the author writes it so that the reader is always wondering when the parents are going to find out about the lie and what their reaction to it is going to be. This creates a lot of suspense throughout it; also the lie had an interesting setting because they mentioned Connecticut in the story.

In my opinion, a well written piece of literature will catch the readers attention because it can start of with brief details so you can get an idea of the story, and then it will progress and keep leaving a chapter or a paragraph with some type of lasting sentence that will cath the reader’s attention and make them want to keep reading. A well written piece of literature will have some conflict in it as well. It’s just good reading, and adds some interest when there’s a conflict, wether it’s between person vs. person or person vs. nature, etc.. There should be different characteristics of each character. They have to be realistic. You know your reading a good book when you can either relate to a character or you really dislike a fictional character. I know I really like a book when I’m reading it and I find that the story has a “deeper” meaning to it. Like the story has “layers” to it. I like it when a book can really make me think intellectually. To me these are requirements of a well written piece of literature.

Several factors play a role in deciding whether or not a piece of literature is "good" or not. In my opinion, a “good” piece of literature should consist of a varying plot, some form of figurative language, and an open-ended theme. Every single book should contain a substantial plot with a rising action, climax, and resolution. These three aspects of plot are what keep the reader focused on what the story is truly trying to convey. In an abstract way, a story with no plot is like a “flat” hill. Figurative language, another important element of “good” literature, is essential to adding character to words. This type of language allows the reader to become a part of what he or she is reading. Finally, an open-ended, general theme is extremely vital to effective writing. An undefined theme frees up the reader’s mind, allowing him or her to take or leave favorable or unfavorable aspects away from the book. In conclusion, varying plot, figurative language, and an open-ended theme are what make or break every piece of literature.

I feel that good literature should include many things. First off, it should include basic thins that would be essential to any story, such as plot, characters, theme, etc. The plot should make sense and be well thought otu. As for the theme, it should be something that can possibly make one do a lot of thinking and make sense. Lastly, I feel that the characters in a story that make sense and people can relate to also represent what good lietrature is. For example, like we discussed in class, I feel that I personally can relate to stories with kids in them more so than stories with adults in them because I relate to kids more because I am still a kid. If I can easily relate to a story and know exactly where it is coming from, I feel that is good literature.

Anonymous said...

The Definition of “good literature” can differ in many ways. I feel good literature should have a catchy introduction that gives hints to the overall theme by ending it with a cliff hanger. The literature should consist of good vocabulary, good connections, a full idea/thought, detail, and a theme. The theme should be exciting and have something I can relate to. The literature should relate to the age group it’s written for. This keeps the reader interested and wanting to read more. Good literature should also have characters that have conflicts that are similar to the reader. Last but not least it should have a great ending that ties the ideas together throughout the story. It should explain all the questions the reader had about the story. Overall the literature should be enjoyable to the reader.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion, good literature should have many attributes to be qualified as "good". I think it should include similes, metaphors, and especially, a sense of symbolism. Having a symbolic meaning to the story can change one's perspective on the piece of writing greatly. Details and descriptions of the setting and characters should be precise and not vague. As well, it should include an interesting title that can relate to the point of the story. Suspense should also be included, mainly by witholding certain details that could be left out. Also, there should be a large, personal, and meaningful conflict in the story that keeps the reader going. The theme should be interesting, and generally easy to understand for all audiences. Lastly, a good conclusion or ending should be a part of the story. Nobody likes to read a good story and then end with a sour face. The ending could be a twist, but, in sum, it should be interesting.
My favorite piece of literature that we have read thus far is "Teenage Wasteland". It is, in my case, the most realistic of all of the short stories because these tragedies can very easily happen to a teen now-a-days. Emotional problems and low self-esteem are common in our world, which makes the story easier to relate to.

Anonymous said...

For a piece of literature to be good, I believe that it has to have several key things. One important point is that the story plot should stay unpredictable, and keep the reader guessing. If it is predictable, then the reader will get bored with it. It also helps that the theme to the story is something the reader can relate to. If a teenager is reading a book about old-aged people from the 1920’s, that teenager will not be able to connect to the story and say that he or she knows how it feels. Another helping point is that the characters are well-developed. For example, when I read a book, I like to be able to connect to the characters and feel as if I really knew them. I also believe a good piece of literature needs good scenery. I hate not having any kind of idea where the story takes place and what it looks like. Usually when I read a story, using descriptions from the book I will imagine the characters in the room or wherever they may be. Conclusively, a story has to be enjoyable to a reader otherwise people won’t read it.

I think that a good piece of literature must contain many things. One thing is that it ties the reader in very quickly. A good piece of literature has to have a plot, a setting, and characters. Without these things it wouldn’t be a good piece of literature. I also think that a good piece of literature really keeps the reader interested in what is going on. Many times if it’s a good piece of literature the reader won’t want to put the book down. I also think many good books have a theme. It has to be about something. If it is scrambled all over the place and its not really about anything then its not worth reading. I know that when I like a book I read it very fast. Many good books also have an interesting title. If it’s a boring title I probably won’t read it. I also think the book should be unpredictable. If you can predict what happens the book may get very boring.

A good piece of literature, in my opinion, starts off with something that grabs the reader's attention. It also leaves chapters with something that puts the reader in suspense and makes them want to read more. A good piece of literature has great details that make the reader feel like they are in the story and it has a conflict of either person vs.person, person vs. nature etc.. A good piece of literature should also be realistic and I find that I personally enjoy reading a story when I can connect to the characters in the story or the situations they are in.

In order for a piece of literature to be considered, "good" in my book, it must hold my interest. If after two pages, the author continues to describe the setting for the story, I'll put the book down for lack of interest; a good piece of literature doesn't waste space. By wasting space, I mean that every paragraph that the author writes has an importance to the plot and adds character to the piece of literature.
Similies, metephors, and symbolism are all ways to add character to a piece of literature, but only to a certain extent. Personally I wouldn't consider a book a,"good piece of literature" if I had to spend an hour trying to read one page trying to translate and analyze each sentence into something that I can begin to comprehend.
With these characteristics, in my opinion, any book can be a good piece of literature.

A good piece of literature to me is anything that grabs my attention and makes me interested. The theme has to be strong so that the book has some point to it. ALso the characters have to be well deveopled and strong so that the reader can make their own opinions on them.. Also, like in the book " The D. Code", the author ends each chapter with a glimpse of the next one and a cliff hanger. This builds up the suspense and makes me want to read on. Also it needs to have a definate and well explained setting. This allows the reader to be able to make a clear mental picture in their minds so they could really get into the story.A "good" piece of literature also has a great ending. Whether it is for better or worse, the ending wraps up the point of the book and still goes along with the theme. Personally I enjoy an ending that still keeps the reader asking questions and forces them to wonder aboout what happens next.

Well to me good literature is using words to express the real life problems that occur during life and in our heads. Things that anyone can see happening in their life. The problems that most people are faced with everyday, and the problems people have to deal with everyday. I also see that good literature should have characters that you can connect to yourself or to someone you know.Characters that dont have real life experiences tend to not be realistic and the novel isnt as interesting. A good novel should also have a plot. The story should contain a story line that people can connect with in their minds or their life. It should also have a problem or something to make the novel interesting. Good literature is not just made up it is things that you can imagine happening to someone. Good literature is composed of situations that many people can connect with or situations that many people have gone through.

My favorite piece of literature that we’ve read in class this year is “Rules of the Game”. The plot line also keeps us reading, and the topic enables us to relate to her writing more.

I believe that a piece of good literature should have certain qualities. A piece of "good" literature needs to have an interesting intro and a realistic theme. The characters have to be something I can relate to in every day situations. Also the author has to give great detail. They have to describe the theme like and make me feel like I am actually there. I feel that it is easier for me to read a book when I am able to relate to the things going on and picture everything in my head. There should also be a twist or cliff hangers mixed into the piece of literature to keep my attention.

A good idea for all students who post here is to write your posting in a word processing program, like Microsoft Word, and then when you are done just cut and paste it in. This will allow you to make changes and save it periodically before you post it. Also, if you accidentally lose the post, you can just go back and get it from your word processing program.

Good literature should consist of exciting events that occur in the story and things that the author uses to try to grasp the readers attention. Good literautre is what keeps the reader having a strong curiosty of what will happen next in the story. Good literature needs a theme it sets the theme for the story , it is the base of the story.Good Literature is what makes the story come out to its best potential.

Good literature to me should make a reader want to keep reading, it should just grab the readers attention. It should also leave the ending unpridictble and keep the reader wanting to know more about the plot.

I believe that good literature should have strong characters. If a book doesn't have characters that grab my attention I will most likely not continue reading the book. If I am able to relate to the character in the story and truly feel the emotions displayed, than I know that the characters are strong and that this book will most likely keep my attention. For example in the book Teenage Wasteland Donny was a very strong and interesting character. I think thst he was one of the reasons that I enjoyed the book. Another factor that influences my opinion on a book is the amount of suspense it holds. Suspense is something that I enjoy most in a novel. My favorite books are ones that I have trouble putting down because I am anxious to see what is coming up. It is also important that the book has a good plot. The reader needs to be able to understand and follow the content (what's going on).

Good literature to me is one that has a good, strong plot line. It should consist of a good beginning, middle and end. The story should grab the readers attention. I think if the characters are strong and well written about, than it will be more successful in people reading it. It should have similes and metephors. It should have some sort of foreshadowing. The suspense level should be very high and should make you anxious as you are getting to the middle of the book. It should gradually lower in suspense when the book is ending.
One of my favorite storie that I have read in class, so far this year is Tennage Wasteland because the characters (Donny) are very interesting. They have a unique personality. Everything from what they say to what they do in the story is very suspensful. You don't always know what is going to happen, until it does.

Good literature should keep you interested and excited. There should be strong characters that you can relate too and a plot that is suspensful. You should be able to imagine every part of the story and put yourself in the characters shoes. There should be surprises that the reader or the character would never expect and the reader should want to keep reading to find out what happens next. The reader should be able to ask questions and read on to find thier answers.

I believe good literature consists of many different things. A good piece of literature must contain layers, with each bit of information a new idea or theme is recognized. You must be able to interpret or relate with the book in many different ways. The characters should be strong, I don’t mean strong as in they are strong willed or they can lift heavy weights, but they are portrayed strongly. If
I find myself hating a character then I know I'm reading a good book. I have yet to read a book I enjoyed this year but I believe the scarlet letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne was an excellent example of good literature. The book contained many different aspects and layers, as I've previously mentioned, and the characters are portrayed so strongly I felt like I almost knew them. The story also had a lot of depth, their was more to it then what was happening there was plenty of deeper meanings.

This is good literature because of how the author gives the characters a unique personality. Beatrice is the type that is just miserable, not caring about anyone and focusing on her own self pity. Tillie is summed up as just being the quiet type, Nanny is characterized by not being able to speak, and Ruth is a rebel, not listening to her mother. This is my favorite peice of literature that we have read so far.

I believe good literature has many aspects to it. It must contain some kind of conflict. If it has a conflict then it also must have a climax which is resolution to the conflict. I think it should be a very descriptive piece of literature and should use figurative language.

Good literature consists of many things. It should use figurative language and should let the reader be able to interpret or relate with the book. It also should always make the reader want to keep reader and always wanting more

A book of good literature would consist of a clear and well thought out story line, a plot, and a group of charaters with individual personalities. The beginning should make the reader wanting more so that the book is not simple tossed aside, but read through completely. Readers should be able to relate to characters and scenes from the story to help give them insight to the story. The story should also have unanswered questions so that the reader will want to read on in order to find the answers. This also gives you ways of thinking of how the story will turn out. But most importantly, a good piece of literature should have a well thought out climax and a good conclusion because no one likes to read a book just to have a bad ending.
